WHERE IT ALL STARTED — ITALY, 2014
Nappytalia didn’t start with a product. It started with a community.
The story of Nappytalia Ghana started in Italy in 2014, when finding the right information, products and representation for Curly and Afro Hair wasn’t easy.
Nappytalia was born to change that. What started as a space to share knowledge, experiences and learn how to understand and care for our natural hair soon became a growing community of people embracing their curls, coils and Afro textures.
FROM COMMUNITY TO EDUCATION
Before the products, there was knowledge.
As the community grew, people wanted more than advice online. They wanted to understand their hair in real life: how to recognize their texture, build the right routine and finally care for Curly and Afro Hair with confidence.
That is when Nappytalia began hosting workshops in Italy — turning years of research, testing and lived experience into practical education for women who had rarely seen their hair truly understood.
Education became part of Nappytalia’s DNA. Long before the salon, the mission was already clear: help people understand their natural hair before asking them to buy anything.
2018 — NAPPYTALIA COSMETICS IS BORN
From knowledge to products.
After years of listening, learning and working directly with the Curly & Afro Hair community, one thing became clear: finding the right products was still part of the struggle.
So in 2018, everything we had learned became something tangible.
Nappytalia Cosmetics was born in Italy — a Black-owned hair care brand developing Made in Italy products specifically for Curly and Afro Hair.
Our formulas were created around the needs we had spent years discussing within our community: moisture, definition, manageability and a better understanding of textured hair.
We weren’t creating products and then looking for customers.
We created products because our community had already shown us exactly what was missing.
For a while, it felt like everything was finally falling into place.
Nappytalia had a growing community, a clear mission and now its own products.
But behind the brand, the reality of running a small independent business in Italy was becoming harder and harder to sustain.
Production costs kept rising. Taxes were heavy. Margins became smaller, while the pressure to keep quality high stayed exactly the same.
At some point, I had to ask myself a question I never thought I would ask:
did Nappytalia still have a future?
AND THEN, EVERYTHING CHANGED
What looked like the end became a new beginning.
I was tired, and I was ready for a change.
So in 2022, I moved to Ghana.
Not to expand Nappytalia. Not to enter a new market.
I came to start a new life.
ONE QUESTION CHANGED EVERYTHING
During a conversation, someone challenged me with a simple question:
“Why don’t you make your products here?”
Here, in Ghana. In Africa.
That question completely changed the direction of Nappytalia.
A brand born in Italy from the needs of the African diaspora suddenly had the opportunity to come back to Africa, bringing with it years of knowledge, experience and understanding of
Curly and Afro Hair.
Nappytalia began again.
This time, Made in Ghana. 🇬🇭
THEN CAME THE MARKETS
I started taking Nappytalia Ghana to markets around Accra thinking I was simply there to sell products.
But the conversations quickly became about something much bigger: hair.
People asked about dryness, texture, moisture, definition, routines and techniques.
The more we talked, the more I realised that people weren’t only looking for products.
They were looking for knowledge.
“You should open a salon.”
At first, that wasn’t the plan either.
But once again, the community was showing us what was missing.
Finding professionals in Ghana who truly specialised in
Curly and Afro Hair, especially services such as the
Dry Curly Cut, was still difficult.
So we listened.
Nappytalia Curly and Afro Hair Salon was born in Accra.

Today, Nappytalia Ghana brings together everything that started with our community in Italy in 2014: products, professional hair care, education and a deeper understanding of Curly and Afro Hair.
